Fourth of July

If you need some low prep, kid friendly activities for the fourth, I’ve got you covered! I have a free coloring sheet as well as printables that you can use to create patriotic wands and/or party blowers, and United States lacing cards. They are all free to download below. Hope they can help to add some simple fun to your Fourth of July celebration!

My kids love coloring… so much that you can actually hear them hum while they color. Print this out and encourage your kids to decorate a cake for our nation’s birthday. I paired the coloring sheets with a tray of various crayons, markers, and stickers and my kids went to town.

In case you were wondering how a three year old colors… my three year old also really enjoyed peeling off all the little star stickers to help decorate her cake. You can also slip this page into a laminated pouch to use as a playdough mat or give your kids construction paper, sequins, glitter, scissors, and glue to turn this into a fun paper craft. We also hung a bunch up around the house to help decorate.

I love celebrating holidays and special occasions and really enjoy planning my kids’ birthdays. One thing that my kids always love are party blowers. I have tried making them from scratch but they tend to either not work as well or take too long to create. As a result, I have gotten in the habit of buying inexpensive party blowers from the Dollar Tree and adding my own design to them to match the event we are celebrating. When shopping, you just want to purchase ones with a coordinating colored straw. This file is best printed out, cut, and glued to create a quick, cheap, and festive party blower that you can lay across a table to double as decor or add to a goodie bag as a fun favor. To glue, I just used a regular glue stick.

The same printable from above can also be used to make patriotic wands.

Just tape a wooden dowel and ribbons to the back.

Then glue another circle on top. Don’t worry if your circles don’t line up perfectly. You can trim if needed. Then curl your ribbons, cut nice ends, and wrap your wooden dowel with yarn if desired. My kids liked doing this to create a striped appearance to their wand.

They could be placed in a vase or container to make an easy and fun centerpiece or just given to kids to dance and parade around.

Lastly, I made some lacing cards for the kids in the shape of our country.

This file is best printed out onto cardstock, laminated, and punched out with a regular hole punch to create lacing cards that can be used with either shoelace or yarn. We used a mix of red and white yarn. You just need to add a little scotch tape at the end of the yarn to make it easier for kids to sew through the holes. This is a great fine motor activity for younger kids. My older two also really enjoyed this activity, creating their own unique string art patterns.
