Groundhog Day
I made a few printable activities to help the kids observe this fun superstitious day. They are all free to download below for personal, single classroom, or library use. There is a groundhog popsicle stick puppet printable that kids can cut out, dress for a longer winter or early spring, and use for shadow play as well some free coloring pages.
This file is best printed out onto white cardstock and given to your child to cut out. This is what the pieces look like all cut.
Kids can either use regular school glue or glue sticks to paste their puppets together.
Then attach to popsicle sticks using some tape.
These puppets make a great tool for imaginative play and encourage kids’ social and language development. They can be useful in introducing topics such as seasons, season change, as well as help get kids excited to learn more about groundhogs. They were also an inexpensive, easy to set up, screen-free alternative. My kids really enjoyed making them, having them dance, and give the weather report.
I also made some coloring pages for kids to color a groundhog standing in the winter or spring.
My kids loved coloring in their predictions. Personally I hope Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t see his shadow today and we can all enjoy some warmer weather!
