Mardi Gras Masks
Today I wanted to share some printable masks that kids can make and wear to observe Mardi Gras. My kids really enjoyed decorating and wearing their masks and learning a bit more about why people celebrate this day. I hope your kids will enjoy these too!

This file is best printed out onto white cardstock and given to kids to color and decorate as desired.

My kids love painting and were recently gifted this wonderful fine tempura paint set from PRIMO. They really enjoyed the large selection of colors and how vibrant they were.

My oldest daughter wanted to make her mask more bird-like. We discussed how some masks worn at Mardi Gras look like birds because they were inspired by the masks doctors wore in Europe long ago during the plague.

My seven-year-old enjoyed mixing the colors and using a fan brush to make her mask more feathery in appearance.

The masks will need to be cut out. We were gifted these kid safe scissors by Kiddie Kutterz and my kids had no difficultly cutting on cardstock with them. My youngest (five) did need help cutting out the eye holes as well as cutting out some of the fine detail above her mask.

You can glue either wooden dowels or crafts sticks to them. These are pretty large masks that will fill adults as well as kids.

You can also hold punch them at the sides and attach elastic string to wear.

I create more printable activities for kids here with the goal of helping to grow kids who love to learn although recently it has turned more into a site where people order something custom for their loved one’s birthdays.
If you get a chance to make these Mardi Gras Masks I would love to see it! Please use #sodangfun on social media, tag me @sodangfun on Instagram, or post to my Facebook page.
Wishing you a safe and fun Mardi Gras!
