Star Wars Day
Happy Star Wars Day! Our family loves Star Wars and we look forward to this annual celebration of the pun and all things Star Wars. My son’s class is also celebrating today and he is excited to get to dress up for school. I made a few printable activities to add to the fun. There is a Yoda and Vader suncatcher craft, printable banner, coloring page, and Star Wars math worksheet, all free to download below.
This file is best printed out and used as a template to trace onto black cardstock. You will need to cut out the outline of the shape, then the middle, leaving a border of about 1cm in thickness. Next place either contact paper (if you have it) or strips of packing tape (what we used as we have a lot leftover from our recent move). Flip the whole piece over so the sticky side is now up. Use the template to trace two oval eyes and cut that out of black cardstock. Adhere the eyes, then cover the rest with overlapping small squares of green tissue paper.
My toddler (18 months) and preschooler (age 3) really enjoyed sticking the pieces of tissue paper onto their suncatchers and kept on requesting more suncatchers to make when they were finished. My daughter (in kindergarten) and son (in second grade) were able to complete all the steps above (tracing the template and making all the cuts themselves) with little assistance.
As a bonus, we discovered that if we flipped this same template upside down and used blue tissue paper, we created Darth Vader.
This a quick and easy way to help decorate for today. I created this simple banner using the Death Star font. With this printable, you don’t have to decide how many T’s or E’s you want to print. It is all ready to go. Just print onto white cardstock, cut, hole punch at the corners, and hang with ribbon, yarn, or twine. We used jute twine as that is what we had but we have also used yellow yarn to hang our other Star Wars banners up in the past. If you don’t want to use so much black ink, I made the same banner with the letters outlined in black that you can print out and have the kids color then hang.
My daughters requested something with Princess Leia so I made this simple coloring page. My kids love to color and color all the time. Often, they will even hum when they color. It helps them to focus, relax, and also sparks creativity. I enjoy seeing when they decide to add more detail to their characters or scenery.
I created this math worksheet for my son who is currently in the second grade and has been working on money math, measurement, math word problems, as well as triple digit subtraction. He did well and requested extra copies to share with his class today.
