April Fools’ Day

They say laughter is the best medicine and it is so true. Studies have shown that laughter has many benefits including increasing endorphins (chemicals released by your brain that help you to feel good, be less stressed, and feel less pain). Laughter helps your immune system to perform better fighting off infection and may even help you live longer. Having a good sense of humor has also been linked to greater confidence, optimism, and happiness in kids. Those are all great reasons why we should celebrate and observe this silly day.

This occasion is also a great opportunity to discuss with kids the difference between creating jokes, making people laugh and feel good, and teasing or carrying out harmful and mean pranks. After all, we want to nurture the development of a good sense of humor that can benefit everyone.

I created a printable joke book for kids to color and complete that is free to download below.

This file is best printed back to back onto cardstock, cut in half, folded, and stapled in the middle to create a mini joke book for your child to color and write their answers in the word bubbles. It features my simple doodles of egg shaped farm animals. The answers are quackers, neighbors, the baaa-throom, maaath, Hop-py Easter!, and mooovies. Though toddlers and preschoolers may not be able to understand these puns yet, they can still have fun coloring and hearing silly animal sounds while listening to you read. My preschooler enjoyed “reading” these jokes back to me. School-aged children are more likely to understand these play on words and can be inspired to create more on their own.
