Party

Peppa Pig Birthday Party

Recently our youngest daughter turned three and requested a Peppa Pig themed birthday. Full of imagination, fun, and a bit bossy, it was a great theme that reflected my daughter’s personality. Here is how my kids and I created an easy and affordable birthday party to celebrate with her family and little friends. Hoping these ideas and printables may also be helpful and fun for your family as well.

Decorations:

My kids helped me to create these easy and fun paper lanterns to decorate. I made a template for the puppets that is free to download below then printed them out onto cardstock. We used a mix of colored cardstock and construction paper to create the lanterns although the lanterns created from cardstock ended up being much more sturdy and looked much nicer. The faces from the template were cut out and pasted. My kids added on the rest of the details using crayons and pens.

The template also includes Freddy Fox and Candy Cat.

Here is sister gluing Freddy’s face together. She is a little heavy handed with the glue.

Big sister decided not to use the pink cheeks provided but cut out little strips of white paper to create whiskers for Candy Cat.

We strung all the lanterns up using clear fishing wire. This was an inexpensive and simple way to bring the cast of characters to the party. As a bonus they were fun to make with the kids and they were so proud to see them all displayed. We also cut out random shaped muddy puddles out of brown construction paper and used painter’s tape to attach them to our white cabinets that were just screaming for dirt of some kind. Lastly, we used artificial flowers we had leftover from sister’s unicorn birthday party and placed them into pink rain boots as quick and easy centerpieces.

We wanted to recreate the simple sun that is often seen shining in the sky in all the Peppa Pig stories and shows. We used a pack of yellow paper plates and adhered them to the wall using double sided painter’s tape then cut up part of a yellow pool noodle to make the sun rays. This decoration ended up taking about ten minutes to complete, cost under two dollars, and helped to cover a large blank space on our wall with a bit of whimsy and brightness.

We purchased two 4 X 8 feet panels of particle board from Home Depot and made these larger than life cutouts of Peppa, George, and friends. I used a projector to outline their images with a large Sharpie and my kids painted the rest. After painting, my husband cut out all the characters with his jigsaw and we placed them all around the house to decorate. Even though the cost of these particle boards has risen, they still are overall low cost, big impact decorations that my kids always enjoy helping me to make.

Here is sister painting Suzy Sheep.

We created Peppa Pig’s house out of one yellow plastic tablecloth. We used red bowls leftover from my husband’s medical themed birthday party to create the red roof. My kids helped me to glue squares of light blue construction paper onto four pieces of white poster board. Everything was secured to the wall using command strips and clear push pins. I find push pins work best for securing plastic tablecloth to the wall. This decoration took about 20 minutes to put together and was an easy and inexpensive way to decorate the large wall in our living room.

Here is sister helping to make the windows on Peppa’s house.

Over the cake table, I made this rainbow pennant banner for my daughter. We placed Pedro Pony and Suzy Sheep next to where my daughter would sit. My daughter decided they both needed party hats like hers which turned out to be the best idea. I made a few more banners for her that I displayed throughout the house. They are available here and just were an easy and inexpensive way to quickly decorate a room. As an aside, the birthday girl was so excited she was turning three, she kept on pointing to the number three pennant and moving it.

Party Activities:

This was the setup in the kids’ playroom on party day. I made a large fairy Peppa and regular Peppa out of a mix of construction paper, poster paper, and crepe paper streamer and laid out four activities on the craft table. I like to set up a craft table that is self explanatory with all the supplies laid out, where guests can come and go as they please. I found the fairy clipart here and attached her to rainbow signs that I had made for sister’s unicorn party. I just changed the colors out to match her party scheme. I cut out simple clouds out of white poster board and used more poster board to make her Lily Pig sign.

I found some Peppa Pig coloring pages here and personalized them with a message to the birthday girl and added her age to them. I make more personalized coloring pages for kids here.

Here is sister coloring a page for the birthday girl. My kids just love to color and even hum while they color. It can be so calming and helps them to focus some of that abundant energy. They always like to either gift or hang up their end result .

The kids colored and decorated party hats that I made and personalized with my daughter’s age. I just printed out a few designs onto white cardstock and included a tray filled with markers, glue, scissors, glitter glue, adhesive gems, and sequins for the kids to embellish, cut, assemble, and wear. I make more party hats here.

I found these wonderful little cardboard Peppa Pig cutouts at the Dollar Tree. I purchased four packages so for just five dollars was able to have another easy and fun party activity. I used a chip tray we already had to lay all the pieces out and added more markers and crayons for the kids to color.

I tried to use every possible corner in our downstairs space to invite kids to play. This activity setup was as easy as grabbing brother’s dinosaur bin filled with various sizes and types of dinosaurs for kids to just play and roar with.

I wrapped a few boxes in kraft paper to make packages and included blank envelopes, notecards, and stamps for the kids to write a special message to the birthday girl and help Zoey Zebra and her dad deliver mail. Big sister included a picture of Zoey that she drew as well as Emily Elephant on the wall. My kids always get very excited for their birthdays and really enjoy helping me to decorate.

I turned their play kitchen into Mrs. Rabbit’s Ice Cream Shop by simply stringing alternating yellow and white balloons as a nod to her yellow and white awning. I made a simple ice cream menu that is free to download below. Everything was priced at three dollars as the birthday girl was turning three. I used this play money and printed out one dollar bills with my daughter’s face on it for the kids to play with. The ice cream cones were rolled up brown kraft paper secured with glue. My kids helped me to crumple up a packet of rainbow tissue paper we purchased from the Dollar Tree to make the ice cream. Lastly as Mrs. Rabbit had many different roles, we filled the adjoining shelves with groceries as she also worked at the grocery store, and fire trucks as she also drove the fire truck. My daughter also reminded me to include her walkie-talkie as Mrs. Rabbit also flew the helicopter and might need to be called in to rescue someone.

I set out all the kids’ blocks and Magnatiles and grabbed their soccer cones and construction vehicles to make a little invitation for them to help Mr. Bull design and build a house. They loved this setup and sat here for a while drawing, creating, and building.

The kids decorated Peppa Pig cookies. I actually could not find a Peppa Pig cookie cutter that would come in time but I found this Peppa Pig playdough set that was available for pick up at our local Walmart. I just washed the cutter really well and used them to cut out the cookies before letting the kids have a go with their new playdough set.

The cookies turned out great with the playdough cutter! I always use this recipe. My kids love helping me to make sugar cookies for all their birthdays and holidays and they have become little experts at rolling and cutting out the dough.

As a bonus, the kids had a blast using this set afterwards for some playdough fun.

We created a super simple version of Grandpa Pig’s boat out of a large box my husband had saved for us. He has quickly learned to save all large boxes for our crafting adventures. I used a paper plate and traced four circles to cut out as windows and cut a slight curve to the bottom two sides of the box to give it more of a boat appearance. The kids painted it blue with acrylics. It probably could have used a second coat but the kids already loved it as it was. To finish it off, I added three strips of regular masking tape to create the white stripe seen on Grandpa Pig’s boat.

My kids love photo props and I really enjoyed creating these for them. I made some printable pig noses that is available to download below for free. The pirate photo booth props are available here. I also made a set of Peppa Pig themed speech bubbles and arrows that is free to download below.

The pig noses are best printed out onto white cardstock, cut, and hot glued to wooden dowels or chopsticks. As a bonus, they also fit onto the bottoms of 9 oz paper cups to use as noses. I had to create these as the pink cups I had purchased for my daughter’s party ended up being white and not pink on the bottom as I had hoped.

There are nine photo props included. There are five arrows that say: Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig, Birthday Pig, Granny Pig, and Grandpa Pig. There are four speech bubbles that say: We Love Muddy Puddles!, Snort! Snort!, Hee! Hee! Hee!, and So Dang Fun! They made for such an easy and fun addition to our party.

The birthday girl also helped me to paint toilet paper and paper towel rolls to make binoculars and telescopes.

We hosted a story time. Story time is always a low cost and welcomed addition to all of our kids’ parties. Daddy read Super Peppa. It is a cute story about how anyone can be super by being healthy and choosing kindness. Pictured above is the birthday girl who is a BIG fan of stories.

We also made a homemade pinata out of a moving box for glass, some priority mailboxes (as the birthday girl had received several packages in the mail already), some tissue paper, and crepe paper streamer. My daughters helped me to tape and glue everything on. My kids always enjoy helping me to make these larger than life pinatas and filling them with their favorite candy.

Here is the finished pinata of a simplified fairy Peppa.

Here is the birthday girl listening to instructions before she has a go. We always like to remind the kids that no one can run to pick up any candy until either my husband or I have a hold of the bat. She also listened to brother telling her where he thought was the weak spot to hit.

Outside, I filled the kids’ large sand table with homemade taste safe play mud and added Peppa’s family car, as well as some of my daughter’s plastic (and washable) Peppa toys for some muddy puddle jumping. The addition of some wooden spatulas and little paper umbrellas led to another easy and inexpensive invitation to play.

The kids played pin the party hat on Peppa. We made simple party hats out of construction paper in different colors and attached double sided tape to the back. The kids spun around with blindfolds and had a go. This is always an easy activity to prepare ahead of time and also doubles as a fun photo prop.

We were gifted these fun water beads. I added about a half a cup of these tiny water beads and filled a large bowl with about 18 cups of water and let it all sit overnight. In the morning, they were ready to dump into the kids’ water table outside as another easy to set up party activity. I just added some bowls, scoopers, funnels, and spatulas. The kids loved using their hands, making pretend soup, as well as balancing the beads on the spatula, and my daughter enjoyed inverting the funnel to squish water beads through the small opening. To keep with the theme, I also added a few rubber ducks as a nod to the ducks who always visits Peppa and her family whenever they have a picnic.

Food:

We included the birthday girl’s favorite foods as well as a lot of homemade kid friendly favorites. My daughter loves mac and cheese. We also made mini PEPPA-roni pizzas.

Here is the birthday girl helping me to make mini PEPPA-roni pizzas. I found the delicious recipe here.

We bought some cheese from a local farm and cut them up into little squares as moon cheese.

We also served George’s Mr. Dinosaur nuggets.

We served shrimp chips as well as these delicious egg rolls that my family helped to roll.

We had twice baked potatoes that we named after the superhero Super Potato. This is a family favorite that we often serve at get togethers.

I found some clipart of Suzy Sheep, printed them out, and taped them to the top of some fruit skewers. I also set out some veggies and labelled them as Grandpa Pig’s Garden.

As getting everything ready on the day of the party can sometimes be a bit crazy, I always like to have some food like this already prepared ahead of time and ready to go on party day.

I made deviled eggs and placed Daddy Pig next to them.

My daughter requested a strawberry cake. I found the delicious recipe here. I always use Two Sister’s recipe for buttercream frosting. I used clip art found here and sized them to make these simple cupcake toppers. I adhered them to toothpicks and inserted them into these delicious chocolate cupcakes.

Favors:

The bags for her birthday party contained some of her favorite things (playdough and bubbles). Sister was gifted this Peppa Pig super sticker book. We used the stickers to decorate the plain bubbles and playdough lids. Each guest also received leftover pop out characters (from the Dollar Tree) and filled the rest of their bag with pinata candy as well as any crafts they wanted to take home. I create more personalized bag labels here.

My greatest joy in creating these parties for my children is seeing all their excitement and happiness. I also enjoy finding ways to incorporate their current interests into their daily learning. Here are a few examples of activities my daughter really enjoyed in the days preceding and following her birthday.

We made a Polly Parrot craft using a toilet paper roll and my daughter flew Polly around her numbers. The Polly Parrot craft template is free to download below. The number formation worksheets are available here.

We purchased a few more Peppa books to add to our library and incorporated some early numeracy and playdough fun. I make more playdough mats here.

Lastly, we made some brown homemade playdough as mud and worked on some letter formation. My daughter also enjoyed using her Peppa toys to stomp through her letters. I make more letter and number formation workbooks here.
