Easy DIY Easter Decorations

Here are a few easy, affordable, and fun ways to decorate for Easter with your kids! Whenever possible, I have included printable templates that you can use to recreate them. Most of our decorations costed only a few dollars in supplies. Everything is also kid friendly. Hope these printables and ideas can help to make your home more festive and fun with your kids this holiday season!

There are five designs included. It is best printed out and used as a template to cut out onto black cardstock, and covered with contact paper. Kids can decorate their suncatchers by sticking on different colored tissue paper squares.

When trimming, leave a border that you can use to hang onto your windows. My kids have really enjoyed making these colorful decorations to brighten up our windows!

The above printable can also be used as a template to cut out onto cardboard to create cardboard Easter eggs that kids can decorate with paint pens and dot markers.

My kids have made numerous eggs. They like to hang them on our walls with double sided painter’s tape. They have also enjoyed wrapping these eggs with yarn. We have also used the template to cut eggs out of scratch art paper to decorate.

This year as Easter falls much later, we ended up having more time to decorate our home. I used my projector to enlarge the suncatcher template to create giant Easter eggs for my kids to paint.

Of course that meant making some large chocolate bunnies as well.

We placed them outside to add some festive fun to our home along with these pool noodle carrots.

They really add a fun pop of color to our home and can be pulled out quickly to decorate for next year too!

Inside our home, my kids helped me to create this simple and fun balloon backdrop. We made balloon Peeps by tying two balloons together, adding bunny ears out of construction paper, and little circles out of black construction paper. We also cut out some paper daffodils and glued a white cupcake liner to the centers to add some more visual interest. Lastly, I made a printable banner to help document the year. I make more personalized banners here.

We made more Peeps out of pastel paper plates, cutting out a tall slighty curvy triangle to create the ears, and using a 1.5 inch circle punch to create the eyes and nose. Everything was hung up with painter’s tape.

In keeping with the Easter candy theme, I also made gold balloon bunnies inspired by one of my kids’ favorite Easter treat, the Lindt chocolate bunny. This was made by tying two gold balloons together and adding ears out of gold foil. I then glued everything onto a gold paper plate. Lastly I pasted on a red bow and an almond shaped eye cut out of black construction paper.

Finally my kids dyed eggs to brighten up our Easter table. We have tried various methods over the years but this is by far, our favorite. It’s simple and doesn’t smell. The mess also is manageable if you use disposable cups, bowls, and drape your space with a large plastic tablecloth. All I do is boil eggs in preparation. My kids help me to fill plastic cups with warm water. Instead of adding vinegar, they squeeze lemon and add some Wilton icing gel to each cup, stirring with wooden chopsticks.

They then can either use tongs to dip and soak each egg or little pipettes to squirt colors onto their eggs (which leads to a less vibrant color but pretty marble effect). We leave them to dry and store them in the fridge. When dry, my kids like to add further designs using food markers.
